This year is full of fantastic games, and the Game of the Year Award is going to have a lot of contenders like Resident Evil 4 Remake, Final Fantasy XVI, Hogwarts Legacy, and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom and Diablo IV will be there too, for sure!

With amazing gameplay and a new story, Blizzard has finally delivered a fantastic title after years of patience from the gaming community. We’ll try to keep this Diablo IV review as spoiler-free as possible, but beware, there are some minor spoilers here.

A World Transformed

Diablo IV takes place 30 years after the ending of Diablo III. Where the Great Evils get released from the Black Soulstone, and if you remember well, the Great Evils don’t die forever. Their essence still lives on endlessly and will return after some time of regaining their strength.

Before you start your journey in this new chapter of the Diablo series, you get to choose the class of warrior you want to be: Sorcerer, Rogue, Barbarian, Druid, or Necromancer. Every Diablo IV class has its strengths and weaknesses.

  • The Sorcerer: has great potential when combined with allies. His powerful spells will give your friends a huge advantage in battle, but if you are a solo player, you will need help to make this class shine on its own.
  • The Necromancer: can be a wise choice if you pretend to play solo. His powerful magic can summon the dead to give you a hand, and the skins available for this class are very cool too!
  • The Barbarian: is a close-quarters powerhouse designed to take and give hits. If you are all about destroying the forces of hell with brute force, this is the class for you.
  • The Rogue: This is one of the Diablo IV best class. The Rogue is all about long to mid-range combat with his arrows, daggers, and speed.
  • The Druid: can shapeshift into animals to destroy his enemies. This is one of our favorite classes alongside the Necromancer because they are very fun to use and are cool looking as well.

Unveiling Lilith’s Story

Before diving into the game for this Diablo IV review, we must understand the story behind Diablo IV’s main antagonist: Lilith, The Daughter of Hatred. Both she and Inarius are responsible for the creation of Sanctuary and the birth of the first Nephilim.

Still, she was sealed away by Inarius himself after she decided to end the Eternal Conflict between Heaven and Hell. She started by raising an army of powerful Nephilim and conquering both sides of the war with it.

Being the Daughter of Mephisto, the eldest of the Prime Evils, she was gifted with tremendous power. Sadly, she failed to share his father’s vision of the Eternal Conflict after she fell in love with the Angel Inarius. Then she started to think that the Eternal Conflict was just a waste of time.

Both she and Inarius seized the World Stone for themselves and created Sanctuary, a new world hidden from Heaven and Hell. Here, all the Angels and Demons who wanted to escape the eternal conflict could thrive and live in peace.

The main objective of Diablo IV

From the union of Angels and Demons came the Nephilim, aka Humanity. This new species had both angelic and demonic powers alike. So naturally, they were stronger than their parents, and Inarius began to fear them.

Because if Humanity grew unchecked, both Heaven and Hell will be conquered by it. This, of course, angered Lilith as she loved her new world and his son. When you understand Lilith’s motives and reasons, it leaves you wondering if stopping her is really the right thing to do. Because the survival of Humanity should be our first priority, and both Heaven and Hell want us out of the equation.

After a long time of being trapped, Lilith is set free by Elias, a Fallen Horadrim who wants to end the Eternal Conflict as soon as possible. He fears that Humanity will be wiped out by the Prime Evils when they recover their formal strength.

Your mission is to stop Lilith from using Humanity as a tool for ending the Eternal Conflict. This will make her the only ruler of the Burning Hells, Shining Heavens, and, of course, our precious little world.

Gameplay Bliss

Now, with your main objective explained, we can jump to the actual Diablo IV gameplay. It feels great, even if you are unfamiliar with the Diablo series! The Diablo 4 gameplay is super friendly for both veteran and new players alike.

The overall movement feels smooth. You have plenty of dungeons and secondary missions to farm your way up. Also, you have plenty of abilities to build your character to your preferred playstyle and, of course, lots and lots of items to search and loot for.

We recommend you to play with friends. Having a party with different classes and abilities will give you far more advantages than playing alone. Plus, it’s more fun to play with friends with the same goal as you.

Storytelling excellence despite the need for farming

One thing I noticed while preparing for writing this Diablo IV review is that farming can be a little annoying, especially if that’s not the type of game you enjoy, and here in Diablo IV, you have to farm… A lot.

So, suppose you hate to spend hours and hours grinding your way to higher levels. In that case, we recommend you avoid this game. As to beat it, you need to invest time into leveling up your character if you don’t want to get absolutely destroyed by the bosses in the Diablo IV gameplay.

The story and ambiance are awesome. Although Diablo has never disappointed with delivering wonderful cutscenes and storylines, apparently, it won’t start anytime soon. If you are a fan of the Diablo series main story, you will definitely love this one too.

Does Diablo IV worth it? What Lies Ahead

Hopefully, Blizzard will release a DLC for Diablo IV in the future since the ending has left a lot of unanswered questions. They definitely let us wanting to get more of this fantastic story.

The world of gaming awaits!
