Regardless of everything, this is an incredible time to be alive. The next release of The Matrix 4 movie (The Matrix Resurrection) generates a lot of hype within the fandom. Fortunately, not only can you treat your anxiety with marathons from the initial trilogy of this saga, but you also have any Matrix Video Game on your side.
Hollywood, for many years, has had a special symbiotic relationship with the video game industry. Therefore, it is to be expected that movies like the matrix will get their own version within the gaming world, some with more success than others.
Therefore, now we bring you a compilation of The Matrix video games, to remember this part of the matrixverse, and, of course, to be able to enjoy the new movie in all its splendor.
ENTER THE MATRIX (2003)
The plot of this video game takes place simultaneously with the events of The Matrix Reloaded. At the time of its launch, it was available for all consoles and platforms of that time (Xbox, PS2, GameCube, and PC).
This game marked a milestone, as it allowed the audience to interact with the complex universe created by the Wachowski sisters for the first time. One of the points that earned it respect among those who make movies to video games reviews was that the Wachowskis wrote and personally directed this video game and made sure that the actors themselves of the film would participate in the game.
As a significant curiosity, the Wachowskis produced Enter the Matrix at the same time as The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions movies. In fact, this game includes approximately one hour of original footage.
This game is quite complex and advanced and knows how to take advantage of the third-person perspective and the bullet dodge or “Focus,” especially for its time. However, one of the recurring complaints is that players cannot use Neo but rather control themselves two secondary characters: Niobe and Ghost.
These characters do have importance within the movies and games; nevertheless, they are not as iconic as Neo, Morpheus, or Trinity, the protagonists of the series. If we leave this detail aside, we can assure you that this game will help you fully immerse yourself in The Matrix, with the hacking system included.
THE MATRIX ONLINE (2005)
If one thing characterizes the Wachowski sisters, it is how much they tend to be ahead of their own time, as they did with The Matrix Online (also known as MxO). This was an MMORPG that continues the story of The Matrix universe.
In this game, players control a redpill, i.e., a human who managed to be freed from the Matrix. Once players picked out the red pills and started playing, they could watch a basic tutorial and then freely roam through Mega City.
Sadly, this game was closed during August 2009, when there were barely 500 active players. The Matrix Online received slightly above-average reviews. Its gameplay, as long as the missions, organizations, classes, and combat styles were actually advanced for that time. There was also a big MMORPG getting all the attention, but it continues until today: World of Warcraft.
Nevertheless, now that people are more familiar and enthusiastic about the MMORPG than ever, if the Wachowski sisters launched something similar today, it’s probably that it will quickly gather a lot of fans.
THE MATRIX: PATH OF NEO (2005)
In The Matrix: Path of Neo, unlike Enter the Matrix, players can finally control Neo and participate with him in iconic action scenes from the movies. Most came from the first movie and were selected directly by the Wachowskis.
This is a third-person shooter, and you will start by controlling Thomas Anderson just before waking up. The purpose is to change the events that occurred in The Matrix: Revolutions to achieve an alternative ending to the theatrical version.
During The Matrix: Path of Neo walkthrough, players will learn new techniques and skills that will help them when facing Agent Smith, including the Dodge bullet and, of course, flying.
Likewise, interactions with several of the main characters of The Matrix, such as Trinity and Morpheus, among others, are common. This game also includes scenes from The Matrix movies, The Animatrix, and Enter the Matrix as an added detail.
WILL A NEW THE MATRIX VIDEO GAME ARRIVE?
The gaming industry has evolved a lot since The Wachowskis created these games, and even proposals such as a new MMORPG could reach some success, as long as they do not neglect the use of an updated graphics engine and a good plot. And it would not be unreasonable since other movie sagas have taken advantage of video games to successfully expand their universes, such as the MCU and the DCEU.
It only remains to wait to see what happens in the gaming world after the launch date of The Matrix Resurrection, but without a doubt, it is something that we at Ugami look forward to launching a new Matrix Video Game.
On the other hand, if you want to enjoy the games that already exist in the saga, such as Enter the Matrix and The Matrix: Path of Neo, it is still possible to get copies of the games, both for console and PC, in specialized stores and through the internet, and it is a good idea considering that, indeed, some events that occurred in these video games are canon for the new movie, but we cannot reveal more to avoid spoiling.
And if you dare to buy these games using the best gaming credit card, such as the Ugami Card, you can accumulate Ugipoints and, later, exchange them for gamers’ rewards of all kinds. If you want to know more, you just have to Download the Ugami App, and you will be among the first to enjoy all the benefits of this incredible card. What are you waiting for to join the Ugami Clan?
