A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…

Hello there, Ugamians it’s time for another video game review, and you have probably guessed which game we will be covering today. That’s right! Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

Step into the galaxy of gaming excellence as Star Wars Jedi: Survivor takes center stage at The Game Awards! Nominated for “Best Action/Adventure” game and “Best Performance,” with Cameron Monaghan’s stellar portrayal of Cal Kestis, this title stands among the gaming elite.

Dive into our detailed Star Wars Jedi: Survivor review, from the gripping storyline to the combat mechanics, as we dissect every aspect of this gaming experience.

A Hero’s Evolution: Star Wars Jedi: Survivor review

To begin this Star Wars Jedi: Survivor review, first, we need to talk about the story. Be warned, there are a few spoilers in here. If you don’t want to know anything about the Star Wars Jedi: Survivor main story of the game, skip this part.

The Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order story was great, so I expected this one to be at least as good, and let me tell you, it doesn’t disappoint. The young and afraid Cal Kestis is no more, and now he is a full-grown Jedi Knight ready to face the Empire all by himself if he has to.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor review- Cal Kestis is here to stay

Cal has gotten way stronger now, so much, in fact, that the Ninth Sister doesn’t even stand a chance against him. Still, this time, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Cal Kestis faces what all Jedi Knights with great talent and skill face in their lives, and that is the call of the Dark Side.

Cal already lost his master as a child. But, now, he will lose more people dear to him, which will build an immense rage inside. This won’t matter because the Empire is too strong to be defeated by him, so he and his friends will come across an ancient legend. It dates back to the High Republic era, of a planet hidden from all records and very difficult to reach.

It is so complex, in fact, that even the few people who have heard the legend think that it just doesn’t exist. Still, Cal feels the call of the Force guiding him to this haven. He then decides to find this planet and make it a sanctuary for those fleeing from the Empire’s tyranny.

There’s darkness in the Star Wars Jedi: Survivor gameplay

During the Star Wars Jedi: Survivor gameplay, Cal meets with his old friends and makes new ones, too. But having lost so many people already only means he is even more afraid of losing the few loved ones he has left. And, as Master Yoda once said, “Fear is the path to the Dark Side.”

This journey will be a greater struggle for Cal. He will have to fight not only against the Empire, Crime Lords, and even a Dark Jedi from a distant past, but he will also have to face his demons and avoid his fall into darkness.

Cal is destined to fight for his love

But don’t worry, our Jedi Knight will also find love. Yes, that’s right! Our favorite couple from Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Cal, and Merrin, have finally decided to leave the old and outdated beliefs of the Jedi Order and start loving each other.

Of course, this can only mean that Cal has even more reasons to find a sanctuary to stay safe from the Empire. Now he wants to protect the love of his life from the claws of the Emperor.

But Merrin will also help him in this journey because she is way stronger in this game. She will save Cal’s life on more than one occasion, allowing him to let go of his doubts and fight off the darkness inside him. I just love this couple. They are made for each other and are crazy strong when they fight together.

Overall, for this Star Wars Jedi: Survivor review, I will give The Story an 8/10 score. It is good and has a great ending.

Lightsabers and Force Powers: Combat Mechanics in the Jedi Universe

Now, to keep going with the Star Wars Jedi: Survivor review, let’s talk about the combat mechanics: Lightsaber combat and Force Powers. Sadly, this part of the game didn’t feel awesome for me. There are a few Lightsaber stances, but the Lightsaber combat gameplay is clumsy and slow, which can be frustrating sometimes.

This is especially true during the Star Wars Jedi: Survivor walkthrough when you are trying to dodge and block your enemies’ attacks. The force powers are okay, but nothing out of the ordinary, which was disappointing. We have seen far better force powers and lightsaber gameplay in older Star Wars games like Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. I expected this game to be the peak of the Lightsaber Combat Experience.

Sadly, it isn’t that you can’t level up your abilities to have more combos and unlock better versions of the force powers and lightsaber stances, but it’s just not enough.

Because of this, I will award The Combat Mechanics a 5/10. They were far from meeting my expectations.

Customization Galore: The Aesthetics of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor

Going to the overall customization in the game, it’s nothing to be excited about. There are no flashy armor or jaw-dropping lightsaber designs. But you can customize your character and weapons however you want.

You can use any combination of parts you want. Still, the colors are too basic, and they didn’t include a Black Kyber Crystal in the game to have a beautiful black-colored blade. So yeah, the overall customization is nothing to be super excited about.

I know it is not fair to compare the customization of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor to games like Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic (Even though KOTOR’s is way superior and was released 20 years ago).

So, I will give the overall customization a score of 6/10, and I’m being generous here.

Navigating the Galaxy: Map Exploration and Beast Control

The Map Exploration feels good but is nothing to be hyped for. You can travel with your ship to different locations and start exploring. Even so, the game doesn’t incentivize you to do this, and the rewards are not that great when you do it, either.

You can mount some beasts using Cal’s Beast Control, so that’s a plus. The maps don’t feel too big compared to other open-world titles out there, so keep that in mind before playing it.

I will give the Map Exploration a solid 6/10. I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it either.

The Verdict: A Star Wars Fan’s Perspective on Jedi: Survivor

So, to summarize everything, I feel Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is a cool-looking game with an epic narrative to life, weaving a tale of heroism, love, and dark challenges. While its combat mechanics may fall short of expectations, the gripping story compensates for any shortcomings. As a fellow gamer and Star Wars enthusiast, I invite you to embark on this journey, experiencing the Force in a unique way.
