Microsoft has made an agreement with the cloud gaming company Boosteroid to distribute Call of Duty video games. The company anticipates that more contracts will be made along the way.

The main goal of this Call of Duty deal is to persuade regulators to approve its proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard. This information was given by Brad Smith, president of Microsoft.

Remember that since January 2022, Microsoft has been working on it. The company announced that it would acquire Activision Blizzard, the parent company of Activision, for $68.7 billion. This acquisition is expected to be completed this year, pending regulatory approval.

Once the purchase (the Call of Duty Deal) is complete, Microsoft will become one of the largest companies in the video game industry. They will offer a portfolio with some of the most successful game franchises in history.

Unleashing the Power of Cloud Gaming

According to Microsoft, Boosteroid is the biggest cloud-streaming company that operates independently. They boast about four million users globally.

Boosteroid allows users to stream video games from their servers. This service eliminates the need for expensive gaming hardware. Thus, users can access their games from any device with an internet connection. It definitely makes gaming more accessible and convenient.

Assuming the acquisition is completed, the 10-year agreement between the two companies would enable Boosteroid’s users to stream Activision games. It will include the famous Call of Duty franchise. This move marks the third such agreement that Microsoft has made. Don’t forget that it already has similar deals with Nintendo and Nvidia Corp.

Mr. Smith expressed that the company aims to prove that its acquisition will lead to better accessibility for users of Call of Duty.

Delays in Microsoft’s Acquisition of Activision

Competition authorities in the EU, U.S., and U.K. have expressed concerns over Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision. They claim that the acquisition could reduce video game market competition. Also, Microsoft could gain too much control over how consumers access Activision games.

However, Microsoft President Brad Smith has defended the acquisition. He stated that the company has entered into contracts to bring games like Call of Duty to even more devices.

Any decision on the deal will be subject to judicial review.

According to Mr. Smith, the primary motive behind the intention to get Activision is to enhance its collection of titles. The main idea is to create a more comprehensive library. Microsoft wants to offer more options in mobile gaming, where it currently needs a strong presence.

As we await the completion of Microsoft‘s acquisition of Activision Blizzard, there are plenty of ways to pass the time and get our gaming fix.
